"Do you know why we resist?" Art Exhibition
The Foster Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present "Do You Know Why We Resist?"–Memories and Narratives of Feminist Art in the Galería Feminista Siempre Vivas in Bogotá. This exhibition explores the work of the Colectiva de Mujeres Muralistas (CMM), a groundbreaking feminist public art collective dedicated to community-based art projects in Bogotá, Colombia. Their work celebrates the lives of women, Indigenous leaders, activists, and gender-diverse communities while examining the power of art to challenge violence, reclaim public space, and preserve histories that are too often overlooked. The exhibition will be on view from Sept. 14-Nov. 15, with an opening reception from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17. Live mural painting will take place in the gallery Sept. 15-17, and artist talks by Julx Morales and Valeria Medellín are scheduled for Sept. 23 from 4:15-5:15 p.m. in Centennial Hall, Room 1415. All gallery events are free and open to the public. Persons with disabilities requesting accommodations are asked to email fostergallery@uwec.edu at least five business days in advance of the event.
